Depending on the number of shots, plastic material used, size of the mould and type of surface finish required, a lot of different materials can be used. The following basic mould material properties must be considered: Strength and hardness, Toughness, Wear resistance, Cleanliness, Corrosion resistance, and Thermal conductivity.
Bohler W360 Isobloc
A hot work tool steel designed for applications where AISI S7 has been used in the past, but better texturability, polishability and cleanliness are required, this grade can achieve hardness levels up to 57 HRC with the same high toughness of an S7 alloy.
MoldMAX
A high strength beryllium copper mould alloy with high thermal conductivity. For applications such as core inserts and high heat transfer is required. MoldMAX can be supplied in the High Hard (HH) condition at approximately 40 HRC and in the Low Hard (LH) condition at approximately 30 HRC.
Uddeholm Elmax
Powder Metallurgically produced mould steel characterized by a combination of very good wear resistance and corrosion resistance. It is mainly used as insert material within the electronic industry. Use Elmax when high wear and corrosion resistance is needed. This material can also be used for engineering applications.
Uddeholm Impax Supreme
Prehardened mould steel suitable for a wide range of injection moulds for plastic. Premium P-20 Modified is supplied at supplied at 290-330 HB. This material conforms to W. Nr. 1.2738. It is close to AISI P20 Modified.
Uddeholm Mirrax ESR
Mirrax ESR has been developed to meet the industries increased demand on a mould steel with a combination of toughness, corrosion resistance and ability to reach uniform hardness levels throughout large cross sections. At the same time good surface finishes can be achieved.
Uddeholm Orvar Superior
Orvar Superior is a high performance alloyed steel with a good gross cracking and heat checking resistance. It has good toughness and ductility in all directions. This material conforms to W. No. 1.2344 / AISI premium H13 / EN X40CrMoV5-1, and meet the Superior and Premium levels of NADCA 207-2003 and 2007.
Uddeholm Stavax ESR
Stavax ESR is a corrosion resistant mould steel, with very good polishability. Main applications can be found as insert material for the medical industry, inserts with demands on high surface finish and where low maintenance is concerned. This material conforms to EN X40Cr14. It is close to W. No. 1.2083 / AISI 420 modified.
Uddeholm Vanadis 4 Extra
Vanadis 4 is a high alloyed powder metallurgical tool steel suitable for long run tooling in applications with high demands on adhesive wear and chipping resistance. Vanadis 4 is the best tool steel for long runs in applications with severe chipping problems.
Uddeholm Vanadis 6
A high alloyed powder metallurgical tool steel suitable for long run tooling in applications with high demands on mixed wear (abrasive/ adhesive) and chipping resistance. Acts like a high speed steel in terms of properties, but easier to heat treat and achieve the same hardness levels.
